Historic Dublin Bay 21s

Training and Cruising on the World's Oldest Cruiser Racer Class

We’re delighted to announce a new partnership with the Dublin Bay 21 Footer Association to introduce you to sailing on classic 32 foot yachts which first set sail on Dublin Bay in 1903.

About the boats

The Association is the proud owner of all seven yachts ever built and are lovingly restoring the fleet. Currently three are back afloat and now are ready for you to explore your curiosity and experience sailing on as it was 120 years ago.

Estelle (yellow), Naneen (blue) and Garavogue (black) have been restored. You can follow the full restoration progress on the Association’s Facebook page.

Previous Sailing Experience

We welcome all experience levels, from none to expert. Regardless of your sailing background, we’ll get your group fully involved in all aspects of sailing these unique 3.5 tonne yachts, from hoisting sails, to steering and setting the rigging. Up to 4 guests, with a minimum of 3, can be welcomed in each boats deep cockpit each boat.

Schedule of Sailing

The programme runs on Wednesday evenings from 6-9pm. Groups meet at our West Pier Clubhouse where you’ll be kitted out with everything you’ll need, including waterproof and lifejackets. You’ll need to bring a few items with you, including;

  • Good footwear with soft soles.
  • Warm layers to wear underneath the waterproof gear, it can get a bit cool on Dublin Bay.
  • Hat/Sun cream and bottled water.
  • Gloves maybe helpful to handle the ropes.

Upon arrival at our clubhouse, you’ll be introduced to the skipper and mate, we’ll get kitted out and head straight out to the boats. The training experience is not just about the sailing, we want to share with you the unique history of the yachts and allow you plenty of time to admire the craftsmanship involved.

Current Schedule

We’re planning a series of Wednesday evening sails during the Summer months, with a 6-9pm indicative timeslot. Please don’t hesitate to contact us about this or indeed an alternative set of times.

Would an alternative date suit you better? Give us a call or drop us an email and we’ll put together an option for you.

Booking

The cost of the programme is €600. Up to 4 guests, with a minimum of 3, can be welcomed in each boats deep cockpit each boat.

If you are interested in this unique new programme, please do not hesitate to contact us using the contact details below; Glyn, Vonnie and Dana would be delighted to speak with you about the experience.

Given the unique nature of the event we’d love to chat with you and your group prior to booking. The training experience onboard can be tailored depending on the groups previous sailing experience and we also would love to know which aspect of the programme most interests you.
