RS Feva Race Coaching Programme

After the success of last year’s RS Feva Racing Programme which saw 5 teams competing in the RS Feva Eastern Championships, we’re delighted to announce details of an even more ambitious programme for 2023.

Our objective is to get 11-14 year olds who have good sailing skill racing in the friendly and welcoming RS Feva Class events. The programme combines pre-event coaching with support while competing, and the social aspect of the programme is designed to give youngsters the best experience of one-design dinghy racing.

We’re using 4 events and series as the backbone of the 2023 programme with shake down races in the INSC Super Series, laid out below:

RS Feva National Championships – RS Fest in Blessington

We’re really excited for the National Championships this Summer, taking place at Blessington Sailing Club on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th June. The team from RS Sailing Ireland have a huge event, with loads of RS classes including Aeros, RS 200s, RS 400s and more taking to the water in a first of it’s kind festival/regatta event. The great news is that the whole family can come along, the weekend is as much about what happens off the water as what happens on it, taking the unique style of event RS Sailing became known for in the UK and Europe and brining it to Ireland. There’ll be loads more details on this soon!

For now, the practical bits. We’ll transport the crews RS Fevas to Blessington for the event, and our race coach will once again be on the water. Prior to the event we’ll hold a series of Saturday morning coaching lessons, 9.30am-1pm on the following dates:

  • Saturday 13th May
  • Saturday 20th May
  • Saturday 27th May
  • Saturday 10th June
  • Saturday 17th June

The cost for this programme is €270 which includes entry fees. More details on the logistics will be released when bookings open.

INSC Super Series – Autumn and Winter 2023

Just like the Spring series the Irish National Sailing Club will once again run a series of Saturday morning sprint races. Race programme members will once again be invited to take part within the Junior Club programme.

Sign up details will be open at the same time as the Autumn Junior Club bookings.

DMYC Frostbite Series

The DMYC Frostbites series is a 5-month long racing series from November to March running on Sunday afternoons from approximately 1pm to 5pm. Organised by the Dun Laoghaire Motor Yacht Club, this is the largest winter dinghy racing series in the country and is used by sailors at all levels to hone sailing skills in more challenging conditions and preparing for racing in the new year.

While the dates for the 2023/24 series are not available, they would usually take place as follows:

  • November          5th, 12th, 21st, 26th
  • December          3rd, 10th, 17th
  • January               7th, 14th, 21st, 28th
  • February             4th, 11th, 18th, 26th
  • March                 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st

The long series is the perfect vehicle for significant improvement and honing of racing skills.

After each race, our coach will lead a debrief on how to improve on the day’s performance, highlighting areas where things went well and helping sailors work out what didn’t go so well and identify their own goals to improve.

We’ll keep everyone updated on when sign up for the programme is available.
