Day Skipper Theory

This Day Skipper Shorebased Course is designed specifically for those who wish to undertake the Yachting Day Skipper Practical Course or the Intermediate Powerboat Course.  The aim of this course is to provide the background knowledge for participants to be able to navigate and skipper a yacht or fast powerboat by day. The course provides a comprehensive introduction to chartwork, navigation, meteorology and the basics of seamanship for Competent Crew.

Step 1:  Online payment, after which you will receive an email confirmation with a link to an online form.

Step 2:  Submission of the online form.

Your course booking will only be secured once both steps are completed.


Course Options | Online or Classroom

The Day Skipper Theory Course is delivered by Urban Truant, a RYA Recognised Training Centre specialising in online training. Upon booking, a website link and password will be sent to you. Please allow one business day to receive this.

You will be tutored /supported by an experienced RYA instructor. The cost of the programme is €400.

The contract is between Urban Truant and the student and please note that by booking this course you agree to the terms and conditions of Urban Truant. To enable access to your online course we need to share some of your personal data with Urban Truant. This training website and database is held and maintained on a secure server. Urban Truant is an RYA training centre which specialises in online navigation training and will not use your personal information for any reason other than enabling your course. You’ll have 6 months to complete the course, however, this can be extended for €30.00 paid to the Irish National Sailing and Powerboat School.

Course times: All courses run on Saturdays 9.30am-5pm, Tuesday evenings 6-9.30pm and Thursdays 6-9.30pm.

Course 2: April & May 2023
Tuesday 18th, Thursday 20th, Saturday 22nd, Tuesday 25th, Thursday 27th, Saturday 29th May, Tuesday 2nd, Thursday 4th, Saturday 6th May. The assessment will take place on Tuesday 9th and Thursday 11th May from 6pm each evening. 

Course 3: June 2023
Tuesday 6th, Thursday 8th, Saturday 10th, Tuesday 13th, Thursday 15th, Saturday 17th, Tuesday 20th, Thursday 22nd, Saturday 24th June. The assessment will take place on Tuesday 27th and Thursday 29th June from 6pm each evening. 

Course 4: September 2023
Saturday 2nd, Tuesday 5th, Thursday 7th, Saturday 9th, Tuesday 12th, Thursday 14th, Saturday 16th, Tuesday 19th, Thursday 21st September. The assessment will take place on Saturday 23rd September. 

Course 5: November 2023
Saturday 4th, Tuesday 7th, Thursday 9th, Saturday 11th, Tuesday 14th, Thursday 16th, Saturday 18th, Tuesday 21st, Thursday 23rd November. The assessment will take place on Saturday 25th November. 

Course Fee: €525
Includes all course notes, books, papers.
