International Certificate of Competency Motor – (ICC)

Overview

Course Title: International Certificate of Compentency (ICC) - Motor

Cost: €199

The ICC is one of the most widely recognized leisure boat licenses worldwide. We are delighted to be an ICC test centre, and offer the training required to meet the standard. Full details about the ICC can be viewed in a short guide we’ve prepared explaining the qualification and what you can do with it.

What course or knowledge do I need to get an ICC?
Irish Sailing, on behalf of the Irish Government are the issuing authority in Ireland for ICCs. An Irish Sailing National Powerboat Certificate is sufficient to meet the issuing requirements. Please note, you must be resident in Ireland for Irish Sailing to be permitted to issue an ICC.

Living outside of Ireland?
If you live in the UK, including Northern Ireland, the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) is the issuing authority. They require you to complete the RYA Powerboat Handling (Level 2) course, which we offer. If you are not resident in Ireland or the UK, you will need to contact your country’s issuing authority for details on what qualifications are needed.

Have experience but no course certificate?
You have two options, either attend a two day National Powerboat Certificate course, or you can be directly assessed for the qualification. This takes about 3 hours and costs €199. There is a practical and written theory examination that must be completed. Contact us for more details on 01 2844195 or email sailing@inss.ie.

Making the Application – Ireland
The application for an ICC is made via Irish Sailing. Details on how to do this are on their website here. Please note, to issue an Irish ICC, you must hold an Irish National Powerboat Certificate, or have been directly assessed and hold an ICC Direct Assessment Report Form.
